Fr. Joseph M. Brodeur is the son of Peter and Lora Brodeur, the youngest of four children, born and raised in Westerly, RI. He is a native son of Saint Pius X Church and attended the parish school from kindergarten through eighth grade before graduating from Westerly High School in 2016, the same year he earned the rank of Eagle Scout.
He was then accepted into the program of priestly formation as a seminarian for the Diocese of Providence under Bishop Thomas Tobin, who assigned him to Our Lady of Providence Seminary for the first four years. He is an alumnus of Providence College, having earned his B.A. in Philosophy and the Classics in 2020. He also earned a Baccalaureate of Sacred Theology from the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas (‘Angelicum’) while in formation at the Pontifical North American College in Rome.
He was ordained a Deacon on September 28, 2023, at the Papal Basilica of Saint Peter in Vatican City, by the Most Rev. Paul S. Coakley, Archbishop of Oklahoma City and a priest on June 29, 2024 at the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul in Providence by the Most Rev. Richard G. Henning, Bishop of Providence. Last summer, he served as Parochial Vicar at Our Lady of Mount Carmel and Saint Mary Parishes in Bristol before returning to Rome to complete a Licentiate in Liturgical Theology at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross (‘Santa Croce’), while living at the Casa Santa Maria, the American priest graduate house in Rome. He was assigned as the Associate Pastor of Our Lady of Mercy Church by Bishop Lewandowski on July 1, 2025.
