East Greenwich, RI -- On Saturday, December 12, following the 4:00 p.m mass at Our Lady of Mercy Church, over 100 parishioners gathered to kick of the OLMOutreachProjectPhoto3Year of Mercy with a parish-wide outreach project. The event, sponsored by Catholic Relief Services Helping Hands initiative and hosted by OLM, was the second of its OLMOutreachProjectPhoto2kind at OLM, and was a tremendous success by all accounts. In just under two hours, those in attendance packaged 20,000 meals for the hungry and poor in Africa. According to Pastor Father Bernard Healey, “Feeding the hungry is a corporal work of mercy and lending a helping hand to the good work of Catholic Relief Services in providing food for those who live in hunger in Africa was a great start to the Jubilee Year of Mercy here at OLM. It was an amazing evening as the OLM school families and parishioners of all ages joined together in a spirit of mercy as they packed 20.000 meals for CRS. I think Pope Francis is very proud of OLM Parish!”
